So now I had my new cookbook I was just dying to start trying out some new recipes. The first recipe I decided to try had been made on the show and had already caught my eye however I do not eat pork so I decided to make it with poultry sausages instead. I also changed the recipe to fit in with what I had available so here is my take on Gordon Ramsay’s recipe for Spicy Sausage Rice;
Ingredients
- Olive Oil
- 1 Chopped Red Onion
- 1 Chopped Red Pepper
- 2 Finely Sliced Garlic Cloves
- 4 Turkey Sausages Sliced and Marinated in Chilli-flakes, Pepper, and Dried Garlic
- 1 Heaped Tsp of Smoked Paprika
- 200g of Rice
- 500ml of Chicken Stock
- 1tsp of Dried Parsley
- Salt and Pepper to taste
Method
- Pour a large amount of olive oil into a large saucepan and heat
- Once hot add the chopped onion and saute for 5 minuted until browned and soft
- Then add the pepper and garlic and cook for 2 minutes
- Put in the marinated sausage and fry for 5 minuted
- Add the paprika and season to taste
- Then add the rice and stir thoroughly
- Add the chicken stock and bring to the boil
- Once boiling turn down the pan to a simmer
- Simmer for 15-20 minutes until the rice is cooked and almost all of the stock has been absorbed
- Remove from the heat and sprinkle over the dried parsley and serve
This dish of Spicy Sausage Rice was so delicious and proves that you do not always have to stick to the exact recipe, I just used what I happened to have in my kitchen and it turned into a great meal. I have also thought about making this and keeping it to eat for lunch the following day as I am always looking for lunchtime at work ideas. I also bet this would taste great with vegetarian sausages too if you do not eat meat! I cannot wait to make my next meal!
